St. Francis goes online with Services


Due to the CDC and the Governor’s disaster notices concerning CODIV-19 St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church has cancelled the following events at the church during March and April 2020:  The Monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast on April 18 and the Houston Food Bank Distribution on April 20.  We regret that the events had to be cancelled but we hope to resume the events in May 2020.  In the meantime, the church is holding its services on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on YOUTUBE:  Click here for the Service  The lessons can be viewed here

The Prairie View Federal Credit Union cancelled its annual meeting for March 24, 2020.  Members are eligible to request and emergency loan during the CDC rules for public engagement. A new date will be announced.  They can also request a skip a month payment without the service fee. Please contact the Credit Union 936-857-4925 for more details. 

The City of Prairie View will hold a general election on May 2 for Mayor and three council positions.  The candidates in the elections are: Mayor Position – Brian Rowland, Johnnie Walker and James Larry, Position 4 – Wendy Williams (incumbent) and Waymon Perry and Position 5 – Xante Wallace (incumbent) and James Williams.  Special election for Position 3 – Nathan Robinson and Paulette Barnett. Plans are underway for a postponement of the elections.  Stay tuned

In accordance with the Governor’s disaster declaration, the City has also issued a declaration of Public Health Emergency for the citizens and has instituted a curfew for the business and residents from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. every day until further notice.  For more information and updates, visit https://www.prairieviewtexas.gov/

Respond to Census Here
The Census Bureau has extended the deadline for everyone to self-respond from July 31st to August 14th. It is important that all residents of the city complete the census survey because it results in the voting districting, and funding for health and education, roads and other services in the state. If you are a student at Prairie View A&M University and you resided in Prairie View during this academic year, please use your Prairie View address when responding to the Census.
