Congratulations to Noah Rattler

Congratulations to Noah Rattler on the publication of his first book “Noah’s Walk “, chronicling his from Houston, Texas to Los Angeles, California to raise awareness about homelessness. Rattler’s journey covered 1,800 miles, over four and a half months. Noah’s Walk highlights his accomplishments and challenges while serving as a fun learning tool that teaches civic responsibility, social & cultural awareness, geography and much more. Noah’s Walk is suitable for all ages and may be secured an order an autographed copy from us at www.freeheartoftruth.com. Noah is a 2010 Physics graduate of Prairie View A&M University. According to Noah, his strength and determination is summed up in this quote: "Sometimes you have to go where others can't follow. Sometimes you have to follow to get where you want to go."

The men of St. Francis of Assisi will hold its Men’s Prayer Breakfast on February 22, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall on 204 Dooley Street. The breakfast is in its sixth year of presenting speakers to address pertinent issues in the community. The event is open to all men of the community. Members of the public are also invited to the Christian Education and Bible Study at the church every Friday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Come learn the word and share in the fellowship.

The City of Prairie View is gearing up to welcome the latest business venture A&M Food Mart in the shopping strip on University Drive. The store, expected to open in mid- February, will provide convenience for the students and the residents. There is however questions being raised on the naming of the store. You may ask “What’s in a name?” Well the owners indicate that they are paying homage to Prairie View A&M with the name, even though others beg to differ. It’s left to be seen what happens next!

A VIEW FROM THE HILL: The Gavel Series: Community Based Legal Education continues this weekend on February 1, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Don Clark Building at Prairie View A&M University. This event will focus on Entertainment Law with Attorney Rickey Anderson; Paternity, Support & Responsibility with Attorney Yolanda Bevill; and Social Media Safety with Dr. Louis Ngamassi. The free lecture is hosted by the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology, Waller County Precinct 3 Judge Marianne Elaine Jackson, Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis. On February 4-5, 2014 all roads leads to Prairie View A&M University for the 56th Annual Ministers' Conference. Some of the featured speakers are: Dr. Frank E. Ray, Sr. (Memphis, TN), Rev. Van Carl Williams (Dallas, TX), Rev. Johnteris D. Tate Memphis, TN), Dr. LeRoy Elliott, Sr. , Bishop Charles H. McClelland and Rev. Mark E. Whitlock (Irvine, CA). The Department of Languages and Communication is gearing up for its inaugural Communication Week on February 3-6, 2014 at Prairie View A&M University. More than 25 speakers from California, Washington, D.C., and New York, to Michigan and Texas will convene on campus for the event which includes classroom lectures, roundtables and workshops.

Congratulations to the Prairie View A&M University Championship Women’s Bowling team on hosting its second annual PVAMU Invitational February 1-3 at the Bowling International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas. The tourney will be video streamed on www.BOWL.com. Among the 12 teams participating are 10 top 20 teams including No. 1 Central Missouri, No. 2 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Nebraska and No. 7 Arkansas State. The Lady Panthers won the 2012 SWAC Championship at the ITRC, the premier bowling facility in the country and the official training center for Team USA and the USA Olympic Jr. Gold Team. The ITRC is also adjacent to the Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum.

On January 23, the staff and students of Prairie View A&M University participated in two historic groundbreaking ceremonies for a new academic building for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences and the College of Business, and a new retail and bowling center.

The Retail Center will be next to the University View Apartments on Owens Road and will house a supermarket, restaurant and bowling alley with a dry cleaner, hair salon, and a dollar store and t-shirt company to be added later. Members of the Championship Women’s Bowling team were on hand to ‘turn the dirt’ marking the occasion. The retail center should be completed by fall 2014. The other event watched members of the academic community break ground for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences and the College of Business located next to the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology and Hilliard Hall. The shared facility will include a 400-seat auditorium, study rooms, classrooms and a state‐of‐the‐art trading room for business and a creamery and meats laboratory for agriculture; and is expected for completion in summer 2015.

The Staff of Career Services will host its 2014 Spring Career Fair on February 19-20 from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM in the Willie A. Tempton MSC Ballroom at Prairie View A&M University. More than 80 companies, governmental and educational entities are expected to participate. The members of the Collegiate 100 and Epsilon Gamma Iota will assist with the pre-career fair seminars in preparing students for the event. For information visit: www.pvamu.edu/careers.
