The men of St Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church will host its monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast on March 21, 2015. Mr. Mark Spivey, Department Chair for Social Studies Women’s Athletic Coordinator at Royal High School in Brookshire. Spivey formerly served the students at Hempstead High for some ten years. He holds the Bachelors in Political Science, Masters in Counseling and the Masters in Educational Administration degrees from Prairie View A&M University and is currently studying for the PhD in Educational Leadership also at PVAMU. The event is in its seventh year of addressing concerns and issues affecting men and boys in the community.
All men in are invited to attend the event which runs 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The public is also invited to the Christian Education and Bible Study at the church every Friday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Come and share in the fellowship. Members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church invite community members to join them for their Easter Weekend Services April 3-5, 2015 (Good Friday at 7:00 p.m., Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at 12 noon and Resurrection Sunday Service at 11:00 a.m.) at the church 715 8th Street in Hempstead. Members of the community are being invited to participate in the proposed establishment of a major Community Garden in Prairie View this season. The project is among many sponsored by the Waller County Citizens Assistance Coalition (WCCAC) to help Waller County residents enhance their quality of life, and certainly making healthier food choices will make it happen. The Houston Area Healthcare Associate, co-chaired by Burnest Carter will host the 2015 Play the Course for Affordable Health Care Golf Tournament on May 18 at the Clear Creek Golf Club on 3902 Fellows Road, Houston. Golfers and non-golfers are invited for a day of fun, friendly competition and bragging rights on the green. Congratulations and best wishes to the Prairie View A&M University 2015 Honda Campus All Star Challenge (HCASC) Team as it competes in the national championship tournament on March 21-25 on the campus of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., in Torrance, California. The team members are Joseph Dowell, Captain, a senior from Killeen; Brannon Billings, Eric Johnston, and Chayse Lavallais, a freshman from Houston, with Herbert Thomas, Placement Coordinator as the coach. The team is part of the Great 48 from America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), narrowed down from 76 in regional tournaments. HCASC is a quiz bowl game where academic excellence and quick wit is on display. The PVAMU team won the national title in 2010 is a charter member of the program which began in 1989. Prairie View A&M University will mark its 139th Anniversary in a special Founders' Day and Honors Convocation on March 25 at 10:00 a.m. in the Billy J. Nicks Center. Dr. Michael J. Sorrell, President of Paul Quinn College is the speaker. PVAMU was established created in the Texas Constitution of 1876 as the Alta Vista College and opened on March 11, 1878.
PV Startup and Collegiate Entrepreneurs Network and the Career Services Department at Prairie View A&M University will host the 2015 Commercial and Corporate Innovation Conference at the university on April 1. The program will feature several speakers from corporate America, entrepreneurs, scientists, business men and women and student entrepreneurs. Students and faculty with innovative projects, research and technology ideas will learn the ways to develop and commercialize products and services for the market. The PV Startup will also serve as an incubator for the budding entrepreneurs. Patrick Gray, President of PV Startup and former president of Collegiate 100 and Glenda Jones, Director for Career Services are spearheading the project.
