Television Personality, Religious and University Professionals and Student Athletes to receive Power 100 Awards

Prairie View, Texas – November 1, 2015 – The members of the Collegiate 100 of Prairie View A&M University will present the Power 100 Awards at its Black Tie Scholarship Awards Gala on November 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Willie A. Tempton Student Center Ballroom at university.

The 2015 honorees are the Reverend William ‘Bill’ Lawson, Founder and Pastor Emeritus, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, Miss Courtney Gilmore, Anchor for KPRC Channel 2 TV Houston, Dr. Felicia Nave, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mrs. Sherylle Fuller, Administrative Assistant, Medical Academy, Dr. Freddie Frazier, Retired Professor of Mathematics, Miss Destiny Velez, Miss Puerto Rico and Bowling Team member and the Honda Campus All-Star Championship, Women’s Track & Field Teams of Prairie View A&M University. The new members will also be present and receive their pins as the organization celebrates its 21st anniversary. The organization was created at Prairie View A&M University in 1993.

Miss India Foster, Editor-in-Chief of The Panther Newspaper at Prairie View A&M University is the Host of the Program. The gala is a major event for the Collegiate 100 which was re-chartered at the university in March 2011. Funds raised from the event will support the chapter’s mentoring programs, scholarships to students and other special programs.

Past Power 100 Award recipients are State Representatives Alma Allen, Senfronia Thompson and Sylvester Turner, Mayors Frank D. Jackson and Michael Wolfe, Professors George Brown and Kelvin Kirby and the PVAMU Women’s Basketball, Bowling and Soccer, and the Men’s Track and Baseball teams.

Current and past programs that have impacted the university community include the Career Expo, held prior to the University Career Festival, Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon distribution, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Mentoring the 100 Way with the Freshmen, Toys for Texas Children Hospital, College Tour for elementary through high school students and Voter Registration Drives.

The Collegiate 100 is an auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of America and is sponsored at Prairie View A&M University by the 100 Black Men of Metro Houston, Inc. The mission is to support the 100 in its Four for the Future programs: mentoring, education, health and wellness and economic empowerment to improve the quality of life of the community.
