Frank D. Jackson is Men’s Prayer Breakfast Speaker at St. Francis of Assisi

Mr. Frank D. Jackson is the speaker for the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on January 21, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 2000 Phillip and 205 Dooley Streets in Prairie View, Texas. The Free Breakfast is hosted by men of St. Francis.

Mr. Jackson is a longtime resident of Prairie View, hailing from Luling, Texas. He holds the bachelor and master’s degrees from Prairie View A&M University in geography and history, respectively. Frank retired from Prairie View A&M University after some 40 years in December of 2021. Following a stellar career in the United States Navy for more than 20 years. After a three-year stint as a Navy Instructor, Frank maintained his service becoming a Reserved Captain and transitioned into civilian life as an Admission Counselor for Prairie View A&M University. He later served as Director of the Memorial Student Center, Director of Auxiliary Services, Director of Student Initiatives, Director of Government Relations, Assistant Chancellor for Government Relations for The Texas A&M University System and his last position as Director of Community Engagement.

In addition to his administrative positions at the university Frank began a political career of community service when he was elected to the Prairie View City Council in 1982. After twenty years, Frank was elected as Mayor for the City of Prairie View in 2002, a position he held for six terms (12 years).

Jackson is proud of his achievements as a councilman and mayor working cooperatively with the City Council to adopt the first City – Countywide Emergency Management Plan; install a traffic light at the intersection of University Drive and Owens Road; adopted the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan and Zoning Ordinance, and the City’s Strategic Plan; provided leadership to pass the City’s 1st bond initiative since 1975 to make critical upgrades to the water & waste water systems and tripling the capacity of the City’s main (Alta Vista) lift station, pave city streets, and build the 1st City owned City Hall & Municipal Court Building. Additionally the city erected a Welcome to City of Prairie View sign on US 290 and the “Fences Project” to recognize the historic 14 Farm Families of PV; implement the bi-annual Panthers At Work City-wide Clean up involving the University and Community. The city also extended its service with the creation of a “Sister City” relation with Belize City, Belize, Punta Gorda, Belize and Aseseeso – Akwapem, Ghana to create activities that will stimulate economic development for light manufacturing and trade.

He is equally proud of his accomplishments in representing Prairie View A&M University with the Texas Legislature and the United States government in securing legislative measures and external funding for the university. He was also the first Chairman of the Prairie View A&M Athletic Hall of Fame and the host of the weekly program On The Hill on KPVU-91.3 radio station at the university.

Frank D. Jackson is President and Fire Chief of the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association, Inc., and Past Master of Lone Star Lodge # 85 – Hempstead, Texas and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapter – Prairie View, Texas, where he served as president.

Jackson is the author of several books to include the history of the City of Prairie View, Texas entitled A Brief History of The City of Prairie View and Juneteenth.
