Dr. Trotty Prairie View A&M University in 1977 in the Univerity's Teacher Corp Program and held several positions most recently as vice president for research, dean of the graduate school, and professor of educational leadership at Prairie View A&M University. At the state and national levels, Dr. Trotty served as a member of the board of directors of the Texas Society for Biomedical Research, Chair of the Steering Committee for the Science and Engineering Alliance (SEA) in Washington, D.C., Councilor and a Trustee of the Texas A&M Research Foundation, member of the Texas Medical Center Council of Research Directors. He is a past president of the Association of Texas Graduate Schools (ATGS) and the Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools (CHBGS).
Dr. Trotty, received the B.S. degree (1970) in biology and political science and the M.S. degree (1972) in biology and secondary education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He received the Ph.D. degree in educational administration and industrial management from Purdue University in 1977. In 1995, he completed the Governor’s Executive Development Program (Class XIII) at the University of Texas Lyndon B. Johnson School Of Public Affairs in Austin, Texas. In December of 2004, Dr. Trotty was a Fulbright Scholar at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Trotty has made numerous professional presentations and authored numerous funded proposals to support teaching, research, and service at Prairie View A&M University. He chaired the 1990 University Self-Study Committee for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation. He led the Prairie View A&M University team that won an Indefinite Quantity/Indefinite Delivery contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) that allowed the university to complete task orders totaling approximately three million dollars.
Under his leadership, the University’s research expenditures averaged $11.9 million per year. Dr. Trotty played a major role in organizing and directing the University’s capital campaign; “Extend the View, Shape Tomorrow Today.” The campaign added over $32 million in new funds, equipment, and software to the university.
The Purdue Education Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Purdue University College of Education selected Dr. Trotty as the recipient of the 2001 Alumni Award of Distinction for outstanding leadership in higher education and dedication to excellence in teaching, research and service. He also received awards and commendations from the Houston Teachers Association, the Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools, the Defense Information Systems Agency, NASA Johnson Space Center, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and others.
Dr. Trotty is active in his community. He served on the board of directors of the Community Artist Collective and currently serves on the Wheeler Avenue Inter-City Visions board. He is a founding member of the Prairie View Kiwanis Club (no longer operational) and the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Scout Troop 242 Venture Crew.
He is a member of the diaconate at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas where Rev. Dr. Marcus D. Cosby is Senior Pastor, Rev. Alexander E. M. Johnson is Associate Pastor, and Rev. William A. Lawson is founding pastor emeritus. Dr. Trotty is married to Dr. Sarah A. Trotty, former associate Professor of Art at Texas Southern University. They have three children (Laurette Marion, Willette Francine and William Martin) and three grandchildren (Sydney, Alfred, and Symone).

St. Francis of Assisi will also host the Houston Foodbank/Kraft Mobile Food distribution at the church on 204 Dooley Street on Thursday, January 20, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The free fruits and vegetables distribution is available to anyone in need in Waller County Area. No qualifications required. Patrons are asked to bring bags, boxes or carts to carry the food items. Persons will be also able to sign up for other social services, i.e. SNAPS. Please share this information with persons you feel may benefit from this service.
Members of the community are also invited to attend the weekly Bible Study on Sundays at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship service at 11:00 a.m.
