Prairie View Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association Launches to 2022 TRTA Express

The members of the Prairie View Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association is set to kick off its new year on September 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 2000 Phillip Street.

Under the theme: “All Aboard the TRTA Express,” President Johnie Walker and the members will focus on working together to implement the effective plan to recruit retirees, retain and reclaim former members.

The members take great pride in their accomplishments and achievements over the past two years to include The Children’s Book Project, Scholarships for high school students, support of senior citizens, working through the churches, the Meals on Wheels Program and connecting with the shut-ins to ensure their safety.

Some of the planned activities including Preserving the Past – 1619 Project with Dr. Clarissa Booker, speaker on September 28; Healthy Living – Stroke Prevention and Honoring the Veterans on October 26; Preserving the Past Holiday Celebration on December 21 and Black History Program with Dr. Veda Brown on February 22.  Additionally, members will participate in a series of District/Regional Meetings in Huntsville and at the Capital in Austin. 

“We have great programs for the membership and the community, and we look forward to a very successful and progressive year. Our team and the members are ready to ride this PVRTSA Express,” says President Johnie Walker.

Roberts, Parliamentarian, Reverend Richard Hayes, Chaplain and Mrs. Joanna Tompkins, Musician. The Committee Chairs - Mrs. Christine Wyatt, Foundation and Member Benefits, Dr. Lucius Wyatt, Community Volunteer, Mrs. Mary Roberts, Healthy Living, Mrs. Lois Brown, Legislative, Communication and Mrs. Gwendolyn Carter, By-Laws, Mrs. Annie Rogers, Mrs. Andrea Fry and Mrs. Carol Bates, Retirement Education; Mrs. Teresa Nickleberry, Scholarship, Mrs. Easter Hayes, Courtesy, Mrs. Chandra Johnson, Children’s Books, Mrs. Annie Rogers, Member Benefits and Mrs. Joyce Thornton and Mrs. Ruth Mooney, Public Relations.

The Association meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month, except in November and December. All retired educational personnel are invited to join this progressive and active organization.
